Open Educational Resources Introduction
August 17, 2016 @ 11:30 am - 1:30 pm
Cost | Free
Event Description | This meeting will provide an overview of what open educational resources (OER) are and are not, a look at some of the benefits of OER, and where OER materials may be found. This is an informational session for the fall launching of the Allegheny Intermediate Unit’s Southwestern PA Open Educational Resources Network.
Background | There is a growing movement nationally to discard traditional, static textbooks in favor of open educational resources (OER) that allow educators to combine multiple sources to provide customized and localized learning for students. This fall, the Allegheny Intermediate Unit will convene a network of early adopting districts to make the U.S. Department of Education’s #GoOpen commitment of replacing one static textbook with an openly licensed resource.
NOTE: This meeting immediately follows the AIU monthly Curriculum Directors Meeting. It is open to the public, but intended for district representatives interested in integrating OER. If you attended the AIU OER Summit on May 12, 2016 there is no need to attend this overview.
